In 2024, the Bank inaugurated the Business Revival Unit in alignment with the directives promulgated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka through Circular No. 02 of 2024, dated 28th March 2024. This strategic initiative aims to facilitate the sustainable economic revitalization of businesses that have been adversely affected by unprecedented macroeconomic conditions, while concurrently enhancing the quality of the Bank’s assets.
The principal objective of the Business Revival Unit is to identify and provide targeted assistance to both performing and non-performing borrowers who are facing, or are at imminent risk of facing, financial distress. Such distress may result from a spectrum of factors, including, but not limited to, significant reductions in income, cash flow constraints, diminished sales, disruptions to business operations, or the temporary cessation of business activities due to the prevailing macroeconomic volatility. The Unit’s focus is on businesses that, while financially troubled, remain fundamentally viable. Its mandate is to foster the revitalization of these enterprises, thereby stimulating broader economic activity and contributing meaningfully to national economic recovery.
The Bank is committed to embedding a progressive culture of business revival and rehabilitation, with the long-term vision of ensuring robust business continuity and advancing economic stability. In this regard, the Unit will implement comprehensive mechanisms for the monitoring, evaluation, and support of the Bank’s underperforming clientele, providing bespoke refinancing solutions tailored to the specific needs of each enterprise. This proactive approach will not only safeguard existing employment but will also create new opportunities, driving the sustainable economic growth necessary for long-term stability.
